Moving in the furniture and getting organized in the new Global Mamas Store.

Description: Women in Progress opened its first store selling the Global Mamas apparel and accessories in the hustling and bustling Kingsway area in Cape Coast, Ghana on September 13, 2004. The store is currently being run by volunteers of Women in Progress—including the women batikers and seamstresses who participate in the International Trade program. In addition to having its own store, Women in Progress has teamed with Eli-Emma Batik & Tye-Dye to sell Global Mamas products at the Cape Coast castle. This location is strategic as the main target market for Global Mamas apparel, having a Westernized look, is tourists.

The British High Commission made the opening of the stores possible through a small grant to help women gain economic independence in Ghana. The British High Commission has also funded a "raw materials" revolving loan fund so that participating businesses can procure calico, dyes, and other sewing materials at near wholesale cost, leaving more net proceeds in their pockets.
