Grace, one of the Global Mamas seamstresses, learns computer basics from Amanda.
|
|
 |
 |
Description:
Before Amanda's arrival, Women in Progress was preparing to roll out training to the women in the Global Mamas cooperative for its customized computerized bookkeeping system. WIP also needed assistance with putting together stories for new women entering the program. Furthermore, WIP needed assistance with evaluating and putting in place a new inventory management system that could be used for the sales of Global Mamas products within Ghana.
Accomplishments:
During her three months with WIP, Amanda:
- Assisted other volunteers in tailoring the Quickbooks program to the needs of the Global Mamas.
- Developed a How-To Training Manuals for WIP staff in carrying out Quickbooks training.
- Met with all the women in the program to introduce a standard bookkeeping format and followed up with each one to check on progress.
- Created a Ghanaian cookbook to be offered for sale with the Ghanaian Cuisine Workshop.
- Completed "The Faces of Global Mamas," which involved doing interviews, writing profiles, taking pictures and designing layouts.
- Assisted in the preparation for the rollout of a point of sale/inventory management program (took inventory, prepared reference material for using the program).
- Put together a formula for procuring beads on a large scale and producing the "African Spirits".
- Became a Ghanaian TV star and is best known for acting as an "Accra Accra Accra" trotro mate.
Highlights:
Amanda was struck by how grateful the women were. Even if she helped them do something simple, like set up and email account, they were so happy and would thank Amanda over and over again.
