Description:
When Sarah arrived in Cape Coast, Women in Progress was looking to better advertise their tourist workshops by creating advertising, distributing publications, and partnering with local hotels.
Accomplishments:
Sarah's first project was this "workshop tourism," but her projects expanded into a variety of areas. By the time she left Cape Coast, she had:
- Wrote to Lonely Planet, Rough Guide and Bradt Guide about adding WIP's cultural workshops to their guides (1. Drumming/Dancing; 2. Batiking; 3. Fishing Village Tour; 4. Ghanaian Cuisine).
- Created eye-catching promotional posters for the four cultural workshops.
- Spoke with fifteen popular hotels in Cape Coast about the workshops and provided them promotional posters for their lobbies.
- Spoke with popular tour operators in Accra about adding the cultural workshops to their itineraries.
Created content promoting WIP's cultural workshops and Worked with a volunteer graphic designer to publish it on the Ghana Expeditions website.
- Created a manual for the complicated process for hand-made journals that will be used to add new women to the Global Mamas program.
- Wrote a guide to the use baby slings and wrap pants that is published on the Global Mamas website.
- Calculated full production capacity for seamstresses and batikers that will be used when Global Mamas needs to manage larger export orders.
- Taught computer lessons and added recipes to the cookbook that will be sold on the ghanaexpeditions.com website.
Highlights:
Though Sarah was able to accomplish a tremendous amount of work during her time in Ghana, she says her biggest personal achievement was just being able to relax, slow down and enjoy the experience.
