Vacation
Ruby, Kiley's star computer student, plays solitaire in order to learn to use the mouse.

Description: Since the initial launching of the Global Mamas website and catalog, Women in Progress needed assistance in various graphic design projects to further promote it's programs.

Achievements: Kiley found a number of ways to put her graphic design skills to use. A graphic design goddess, Kiley:
  • Designed the Handcrafting section of Global Mamas website to promote the batiking, tye-dying and sewing techniques involved with the development of Global Mamas clothing.
  • Designed and programmed the Ghana Expeditions website, to promote WIP's four cultural workshops offered in Cape Coast.
  • Designed various other print jobs such as the Global Mamas Banner for US craft shows and the Cape Coast Store, "home party invite" and host posters for the Batik Boutiques, flyer for the large ASAP trade show in Las Vegas.
  • Designed and produced the fabulous new 2006 Global Mamas wholesale catalog.
  • Instructed several WIP staff and Global Mamas apprentices in the basics of computer usage.
Highlights: Kiley says it was the small things that gave her the biggest smiles. For instance, Lizzy emailed her a picture attachment titled THANKYOU because she taught her about digital photos and email attachments. Just hearing her announce (loud and proud) to the office that she downloaded photos left Kiley smiling for the whole day. Teaching computer lessons was also a highlight for Kiley as she saw how the women smile and feel pride upon learning something new. Kiley will also never forget the never-ending "duking it out" of Technology vs. Environment. She trudged forward even after facing many battles with Ghana's power surges, power outages, cut phone lines, floods in the office, and smoking monitors. She frequently dug deep down to find her sense of humor in tact!
