Vacation
Ben in the quality control office in Cape Coast.

Description: Designing and making new stamps for new batik concepts. Ben designed new stamps and then met with global mamas in cape coast and elmina to batik. The biggest challenge he had was running out of time as he felt like he could have done his project forever.

Accomplishments: Ben assisted WIP in many areas:
  • Helping with quality control.
  • Creating many new batik designs and samples to be evaluated.
  • Making a pair of men's shorts out of one of his batik samples.
  • Helping JICA volunteer Michi create her messenger bag.
Highlights: The most valuable part of Ben's experience was the relationships that he formed. He became good friends with the people in the office and with one batiker in particular, Martha. Ben worked with Martha almost every week and they became very dear friends. Martha taught Ben about batiking and life in Ghana, and he was able to give her new stamps and designs for future work.
