Paul taught the new Global Mamas "Bankability" class. Here he is working with Global Mama Esther to teach her the importance of building a business plan

 |
Description:
) Business Training is invaluable to the clients in the Global Mamas network. It is one of the major resources that Women in Progress volunteers and interns are able to provide. During his stay in Ghana, Paul was able to be a strong resource for the clients working on three main projects. He worked on a revision of the computer manual as well as a curriculum for the computer training class that is given to all interested Global Mamas. He also worked with a team of people to develop a new business training class from resources provided by the World Bank Institute. This class will prepare women entrepreneurs to apply for business loans. Finally, Paul participated in the business consulting program that Women in Progress volunteers developed to provide to both Global Mamas and other entrepreneurs around Cape Coast, Ghana.
Accomplishments:
Paul used his strong business education, determination and outgoing personality to: - Revise and update the Global Mamas Computer Training Manual.
- Create a Teacher's Guide for the computer future instructors of the computer class.
- Assist in developing the How to Become Bankable class and create the Teacher's Guide for future instructors of this course.
- Update the website for his business consultation client so that it is ready to launch.
- Improve systems for tracking production at the Global Mamas production office.
Highlights:
From haggling prices in the market and adjusting to the very "relaxed" time schedule in Ghana to traveling and building relationships with locals, whether it was a challenge or a joy, Paul considers it all part of the wonderful memories he will take home. No, it wasn't always easy, he admits, but certainly always memorable. Paul most eagerly remembers his hike to Wli Falls, which he says was amazing and would recommend to everyone. He will also never forget all of the wonderful Ghanaians that he worked with, the variety of foods he was "invited" to try and his struggle with learning Twi, the local language. Paul reflects on his time and counts improved interpersonal communication skills, the ability to balance many projects at once, working and staying focused in a busy environment and helping to improve a system of information tracking across the organization as his greatest accomplishments.
