Description: Global Mamas is recognized by the Fair Trade Federation and IFAT for its fair trade practices and is working to ensure that all of our producers understand and utilize fair trade practices. A recent initiative has been to hold focused classes to educate all of our independent producers on the principles of fair trade. Subsequently we hold follow up interviews and site visits to ensure that these practices are being followed at all levels of the organization. Tiffany lead the first stages of this initiative with the Global Mamas bead producers and assemblers in Odumase-Krobo.

Accomplishments: Tiffany was able to work with in the constraints of the very complicated bead supply chain to make the following progress:
  • Creation of a fair trade standards checklist that was specifically geared toward beadmakers.
  • Development of a follow up interview that could be used with each maker and seller.
  • Initiation of the first round of these interviews.
  • Capitalizing on the opportunity to also interview the makers and seller on their personal and business progress over the previous year for the annual report.
  • x.
Highlights: Though there were many challenges for Tiffany given the complex network made up by bead makers and sellers, she faced the challenges head on. The interviews that she completed provided valuable information for Women in Progress. She enjoyed the variety of people that she was able to interact with on this project. Though the people and their situations varied, Tiffany saw a constant amongst them: They all had a similar goal in mind, to build a home and educate their children.
