Volunteer
Jack with the Global Mamas office staff.

Description: Shortly before Jack arrived Women In Progress began work on its small business consulting projects to help women businesses outside the Global Mamas network to enhance their small business management capabilities. The business consulting project was designed and developed by volunteers to help women entrepreneurs in Cape Coast in whichever area of need the owner and volunteer jointly identified as most important.

Accomplishments: Jack worked with women businesses in Cape Coast and assisted them with his expertise, including:
  • Evaluating the business structure of a 14 person sewing business.
  • Creating and implementing an accounting and inventory tracking system after training employees.
  • Working with a restaurant owner to increase visibility through added signage and listing in guidebooks.
  • Providing guidance on cost structure of food ingredients and other products.
  • Assisting in the planning phase of the launch of Elimax's baking business, giving ideas for marketing products, and forming relationships with local hotels and vendors.
Highlights: Jack said that seeing the positive impact on the lives of his clients, especially Eli and Nii, of Elimax spot, was one of the highlights of his volunteer work in Ghana.
