Description:
WIP identified that its line of jewelry required an overhaul to better meet market expectations and tastes. As part of this, WIP needed to undertake a market survey to understand what their customers desired from a line of hand-made jewelry from Ghana. WIP also wished to encourage more participation by Global Mamas in the design and product development process so that the women could have more 'ownership' in the organization.
Achievements:
Rachael assisted WIP in developing and carrying out a market survey, including the following: - Helping to design an online customer satisfaction survey which displayed 15 new jewelry designs developed other volunteers.
- Liaising with other volunteers and WIP staff in writing, organizing and refining the survey content.
- Helping to develop a competition that invited Global Mamas to provide new textile or garment designs to be included in the 2008 catalog.
- Co-writing and co-presenting the design competition guidelines to the Global Mamas during the roundtable meeting.
Highlights:
Rachael suspected that a good income was a source of power to women, but one of her most satisfying experiences in Ghana was to see the impact of a steady income on the women and discover that it is true.
