Description:
WIP recently expanded to a new location to assist women making beads and beaded products in Ghana's Eastern Region. WIP believes there was strong market potential in the US and Europe for selling hand-made glass beads in bulk and wanted to learn more about this "wholesale" bead market in order to determine if it will be beneficial to pursue.
Accomplishments:
Stephanie assisted WIP in many aspects of its operations in both its Krobo and Cape Coast locations:
- Created a PR Kit for future interns or volunteers.
- Began planning the layout of the wholesale bead catalog.
- Wrote the WIP update for Summer 2007.
- Created stories for the new assemblers in Krobo that were published on the website.
- Interviewed many new bead producers, conducted many site visits to bead-making workshops and made recommendations on bringing on new Global Mamas to produce beads to be offered in the wholesale bead catalog.
- Co-authored the "Man"ual (though it is still a farce)
Highlights:
Stephanie said that hiring new women to be part of Global Mamas and being part of a project starting from the ground up was a great experience.
