Vacation
Pam with Dorcas, the Global Mamas quality control manager in Cape Coast.

Description: WIP saw the opportunity to encourage Global Mamas to take a creative hand in the product development process and saw a design competition as an ideal avenue for enabling this to happen. WIP was also trying to understand the market for new beaded products.

Accomplishments: Pam assisted WIP in various areas of its operations from developing the design competition to researching labor laws, including the following:
  • Organizing the contest by analyzing US sales reports in order to report which designs and pieces were selling well, drawing conclusions on why they were selling so well, and presenting those conclusions to Global Mamas at the Roundtable meeting.
  • Collecting design entries, judging the designs, and helping select winners and new products to be entered into the 2008 catalog.
  • Creating an online survey using surveymonkey.com as well as creating a pdf file with all of the new designs and descriptions for the new beaded jewelry designs.
  • Conducting interviews with numerous seamstresses, batikers and beadmakers and creating articles based on the interviews for the quarterly newsletter.
  • Conducting interviews with local businesses and researching employee benefits packages in order to come up with package for WIP as well as rewriting the employee contract.
Highlights: One of Pam's best memories was climbing the Wli waterfalls. It was not only the hardest physical hike she have ever been on in her life, but also the most gorgeous waterfall and scenery she had ever seen. She says the combination of the challenge and the beauty is irreplaceable.
