Catherine and Julie show off a selection of the home décor product line that Catherine launched for Global Mamas.
|
|
 |
 |
Description:
There was a huge potential for home décor products using the style, materials, and techniques of Global Mamas. Developing a whole new line of products (from textile design, pattern, quality control, product pricing, etc.) is a significant undertaking and WIP needed someone who could dedicate their time to it.
Achievements:
Catherine jumped right into her project and created a new product line from inception to production:
- Built a product range from initial concepts to displaying products in store and online. Final range included table linens, cushion covers, duvet covers, kitchen accessories, bags and curtains.
- Designed many new patterns conducive to batik, while gaining a good knowledge of colour theory.
- Monitored quality of printing, dying and sewing and worked closely with the women producers on improving quality.
- Helped put together a product development course for the women to make them more independent when developing new products for the Western market.
Highlights:
For Catherine, the most satisfying experience was in her last week during the monthly meeting which most of the women attended. She then realized how well she knew so many of the women from working together over the last months. That week too the ladder display had arrived for the Global Mamas store and all of the new home décor products were displayed. Catherine was a little overwhelmed to see it all come together and felt really proud of all that she accomplished. She trained several new women entering the program and persevered despite many set backs and challenges from working in a different cultural environment, which lacked many resources.
