Many puts the final touches on the Global Mamas sign to be used in the US at trade shows and sales.

Description: As part of WIP's International Trade program, each Global Mama is required to keep records of her businesses. WIP had recently introduces a simple approach for keeping records manually in the business on a daily basis. WIP also had recently introduced a simplified program for keeping monthly records on a computer so the women could see how their business was doing and plan better for the future. WIP needed help in rolling out the training program. In addition, WIP was recently contacted by a company in Australia wanting to import batik cloth in the form of quilting kits.

Accomplishments: During her stay in Ghana, Mandy kept busy and achieved the following:
  • Assisted in the tailoring of Quickbooks to better suit the needs of the women members.
  • Updated the Quickbooks training manual.
  • Trained several women in using Quickbooks to keep records on the computer.
  • Designed new textile designs for quilting kits—going through the typical design steps for over 50 designs (stamps, colors, patterns, etc.)
  • Worked directly with the batikers on creating these new textile designs.
  • Created several complete quilting kits and exported a sample set to Australia.
  • Led the multi-person taskforce adamant in restoring peace and order in the WIP office by catching at least five mice.
  • Helped a number of the women, and some non-members, with business development goals.
  • Blessed by a fetish priest and given a god's name, Nana Esigyan.
  • Continues to work with WIP in the US doing further design projects (including jewelry and spirits) as well as sales to retailers in new markets and selling Global Mamas products at fairs/festivals.
Highlights: The most meaningful part about Mandy's trip to Ghana is the incredible relationships she made with people and all the things she learned from them. She most enjoyed working with the women and getting to be very close with them. She also worked with a number of volunteers from other countries and was able to learn from their career experience (specifically fashion design) as well as things from their respective cultures. Mandy is grateful to was able to share in the lives of so many incredible people in Ghana.
