Vacation
Liz tries her hand at painting beads during a visit to Global Mamas in Krobo.

Description: Whilst important improvements had been made to the content and delivery of Global Mamas internal fair trade certification program, WIP identified areas that could have benefited from further standardizing, tweaking and updating.

Achievements: Liz assisted WIP in many facets of refining the fair trade program that include the following:
  • Updated all fair trade information and documentation.
  • Visited most of the Global Mamas and guided them through as much of the fair trade certification program as possible; a good number became certified as a result.
  • Provided clear and detailed action plans and follow-up instructions to those Global Mamas who were new or undergoing their six-month follow up.
  • Started the new Global Mamas on the fair trade certification program, including the women in the new Ajumako weaving cooperative.
  • Conducted IT training for WIP staff and developed training materials for future use.
Highlights: One of the most rewarding aspects of Liz's experience was working closely with the Global Mamas and helping them understand what fair trade really means. Liz was also glad that she quickly learned to get around Cape Coast alone using public transport or walking.
