Bethany trying out her skills as a batik apprentice in the Batik Workshop

Description:
Global Mamas has had a collection of Ghanaian recipes available online for sometime but they needed to be organized, researched more in depth and designed into a book format so that the recipe book could be sold in the future. Bethany worked on all of these stages, finally bringing this project to completion. Global Mamas also likes to provide tourists with experiences that will show them more of the life in Ghana. Currently in Cape Coast several workshops are available from batiking to drumming. Now some workshops are also being launched in Accra. Bethany helped with the formulating and launching of two new Global Mamas tourist workshops: The Market Spice Tour and the Ghanaian Cuisine Class. Finally, Bethany also worked on marketing research to find new opportunities to spread the word about Global Mamas products and tourist experiences.
Accomplishments:
Bethany's projects were varied but she was very productive and able to: - Design a professional layout for a Ghanaian Cuisine cookbook that is marketable to customers both in Ghana and elsewhere.
- Organize a successful market tour which will help to provide income for the woman who leads the tour as well as bring tourists to see a part of Ghanaian culture that they might otherwise miss out on.
- Research potential venues for selling Global Mamas products in niche markets.
- Assisted in inspection and labeling of orders for export as well as shipping and receiving orders.
Highlights:
The relationships that Bethany built in Ghana, both personal and professional are ones that she will never forget. The Ghanaian chef who taught her local cooking methods and the guide for the market tour will be two of her most memorable relationships. She also enjoyed getting to know the Global Mamas employees and volunteers. Bethany is also grateful to have had the opportunity to learn how to work on a professional level with women of different cultures and background experiences. All in all she found the very laid back culture of Ghana extremely appealing.
