Vacation
Georgette at the Global Mamas store assists Keely in trying on one of the robes.

Description: Women in Progress had several small projects over the summer that needed guidance. Primarily, WIP needed assistance in marketing the tourist workshops that had been developed over the previous year. The workshops were developed to generate additional income for woman-owned businesses in Cape Coast. Keely also identified her own secondary project in assisting a local dance troupe in developing their young enterprise.

Achievements: Keely made accomplishments in several different project areas:
  • Created promotional material to market WIP's 4 tourist workshops to tour operators in Accra.
  • Facilitated several meetings with tour operators in Accra to discuss adding the WIP cultural workshops to their regular tour packages.
  • Created several new designs for batiking cloth that were immediately put to use in creating new garments in the Global Mamas product line.
  • Worked with WIP's newest batiker, Mavis, in perfecting the new designs and understanding the quality demanded by the Western marketplace.
  • Assisted new volunteers in getting introduced to Ghanaian culture and getting around Cape Coast.
  • Helped the Ashanti Dance Theatre to incorporate its business and establish more efficient ways to manage the business.
Highlights: As a dancer herself, Keely's highlight was dancing on a regular basis with the Ashanti Dance Theatre. She was thrilled to work with the Ashanti group for weeks and then have it finally add up to something in the end.
