Description:
In Ghana, it is difficult to make enough money to reinvest into the business for expansion. By exporting the products, the women entrepreneurs can command premium prices. It is difficult to find overseas markets, potential wholesalers/retailers and business partners and get the process for exporting started. Several small woman-owned businesses in Ghana's Central Region were seeking assistance in tapping into the international markets.
Achievements:
Zilla worked with a handful of businesses, mainly Family Tradition Enterprises and One Stone, to improve their current business/management/production processes to become "export ready" and to access external markets: - Conducted Internet research on potential wholesalers/retailers in Europe.
- Communicated with potential buyers on behalf of the woman-led businesses in negotiating deals.
- Determined appropriate pricing for the products.
- Ensured the products have the appropriate "papers" for export.
- Helped develop a strategic plan for expanding their businesses internationally.
- Designed, launched, and marketed websites for each company.
- Assisted each firm in its "branding", from coordinating the design of new labels and creating product lists.
- Formed strategic alliances with other business partners who continued to assist the businesses.
- Taught the women entrepreneurs how to conduct their own Internet research and email.
Highlights:
During Zilla's experience in Ghana, she became very positive, taking a grassroots approach in developing small businesses owned by local women. Zilla was moved by the the motivation and enthusiasm of the women and their power to cope with everyday live in Ghana. As successful entrepreneurs, they deserve to get ahead in their businesses.
